Food Train rolls into West Lothian

Representatives from West Lothian Council, West Lothian's Senior People's Forum and West Lothian Community Health and Care Partnership, launched West Lothian's new Food Train service in June 2010.

The Food Train, a registered charity enables a network of local volunteers to provide a shopping and delivery service for older people.

In West Lothian the service has been set up with funding from West Lothian Council's  Challenge Fund.  A substantial contribution to the initial funding required for the first year has been provided by the Scottish Government to allow the service to be established. The development also has the support of West Lothian Community Health and Care Partnership.

The Food Train offers a shopping and delivery service to people over the age of 65 years only. Working in conjunction with a number of grocery outlets within West Lothian it provides a shopping and delivery service via a network of locally recruited and trained volunteers. Assistance may also be given with creating shopping lists and putting shopping way. Being a registered charity a modest sum is charged to cover the cost of the delivery.

Anyone interested in using the services of the Food Train may contact them direct on 01506 654360 or by emailing alison@thefoodtrain.co.uk
