Children's services plan background In West Lothian, the Children's Services Plan for 2009-2012 outlines how we aim to improve services for children, young people and their families. The plan covers all services for all children in West Lothian. It has been jointly prepared drawing on consultations with young people and their families, representation from various groups and parents. It also includes views of a wide range of people working in children?s services including local authority, health, police, Reporter's Administration and voluntary services. The plan covers provision of social work services, including practice teams, residential units, family and early years centres, fostering and adoption, youth strategy and support to young carers. It also covers Surestart, Disability team, Intensive Support team, Youth Justice and Support team, and Through-Aftercare Team. The plan contributes to the joint management arrangements for the Social Work Drugs Team. Duties of the children's Services Plan: - 'Advise, guide and assist' children and their families
- Look after and accommodate children and young people, and provide throughcare and aftercare services
- Provide foster care and residential accommodation
- Protect children
- Provide reports to the courts and to Scottish Children's Reporter's Administration and carry out duties for the Hearing system
- Offer assessments of need for children with disability, carers of disabled children and those affected by disability of others including young carers.
