Social Care Emergency Team (SCET)

***During the next two weekends (Saturday 14/Sunday 15 January and Saturday 21/Sunday 22 January), there could be intermittent disruption to the Social Care Emergency Team telephone numbers: 01506 281028 and 01506 281029. Anyone experiencing difficulties contacting the Social Care Emergency Team during this time should telephone: 01506 466261 or 01506 466262.***

The team works in co-operation with other council services, such as the out-of-hours homelessness officer and with the emergency services. It is for people in West Lothian who need an emergency social work service outwith office hours - for example, if you are concerned about abuse or protection of a child or vulnerable adult, a mental health emergency, or a carer taken ill suddenly.

The staff work a shift rota providing cover midweek, at weekends and on public holidays. On any shift there will be a duty manager, a social worker and an emergency care worker. After 2 am each day, a manager works on standby from home until 8.30 am and can be contacted on the main telephone numbers.

All telephone calls will be screened by a member of the service and work will be prioritised by the Duty Manager. Hours available:

  • Monday to Thursday 4.30pm until 2am then on standby service until 8.30am
  • Friday 3.45 pm to 1am then on standby service until 8am
  • Saturday/Sunday 8am -2am, then on standby service until 8am

Public Holiday cover is provided from 8.30am

Our priorities are child and adult protection, statutory mental health assessments and family or care breakdowns.

The recognised priorities for the service are child protection investigations, mental health officer duties, community care assessments and provision of crisis care, family crisis situations and other emergency situations.
