West Lothian Sensory Support Centre

The Sensory Support Service provides social work, rehabilitation and specialist equipment services to people of any age over 16 who are Deaf, Deafened, Hard of Hearing, Blind or Partially-Sighted or who are Deafblind.

What happens when I contact the service?

We can provide you with an Introductory Pack containing information on a range of services and support.

We will discuss the service with you and answer any of your questions. We can arrange to meet you (and other family members or friends if you wish) to assess and discuss your needs and, where required, work out a support plan with you which we will aim to start as soon as possible.

Service for people with sight loss

We can advise on benefits and employment issues, we can assess the need for services such as domiciliary care, day support or short breaks from caring and we can help with the emotional impact sometimes associated with sight loss.

Rehabilitation Workers can give advice and training to help with everyday tasks such as cooking and kitchen skills, discuss types of support with reading and writing and can assess and advise on mobility and mobility aids.

Please contact the service if you would like more information on these specialist services or to discuss a referral for a social worker or rehabilitation officer.

Service for people who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing

We can assess your needs and agree a support plan with you and this can be done with the provision of the appropriate communication support for your circumstances.

We can advise on benefits and employment issues, we can assess the need for services such as domiciliary care, day support or short breaks from caring and we can help with the emotional impact sometimes associated with hearing loss.

Specialist Equipment or Social Work staff can advise on the provision of support or specialist aids and equipment to meet your needs.

Please contact the service if you would like more information on these specialist services or to discuss a referral for a social worker or specialist equipment worker.

Service for people who are deafblind

We can arrange specialist communication support for you to enable us to provide or make available to you all the services outlined above.

What if my needs change?

Your support plan will be reviewed regularly and you can contact the service to request a re-assessment at any time.
