Physiotherapy

We aim to offer easy access to a wide range of physiotherapy specialities to both inpatients and outpatients in a variety of settings. We have several specialist teams of physiotherapists offering various aspects of treatment and rehabilitation.

We offer treatment on a one to one basis as well as in a class situation, for example, cardiac rehabilitation classes.

Where are we?

We are based within St John's hospital in Howden, Livingston. We also offer services from local health centres, clinics, schools and even within your own home if neccessary.

Areas covered by the service:

Inpatients: Burns unit Intensive care Stroke unit Orthopaedics Care of the elderly Obstetrics Gynaecology Paediatrics

Medical wards:Mental Health Burns and plastics Surgical

Health centres: Selected health centres in West Lothian offer the service.

Domiciliary (at home): Housebound Frailer elderly.

 Day patients/Out patients:  Care of the elderly day hospital Paediatrics Mental health Women's health Musculo-skeletal outpatient department - St John's hopital Palliative care day centre.

Where do referrals come from?

You can be referred for treatment via your hospital consultant, GP or other health proffessional

What happens once you have been referred?

Your details will be logged on the department information system - this allows you to phone up and enquire how your referral is being progressed. You will be contacted by phone or post and invited to get in touch with the appropriate department, for example physiotherapy, St John's hospital or a health centre to make an apointment that is convenient for you once you have reached the top of the waiting list.
