Safe and Sound - Adult Protection Service Users Event
West Lothian Adult Protection Committee is holding an adult protection event on 14 March, at Howden Park Centre, and is encouraging service users, their carers and families to attend.
The aim is to engage adult protection service users, their carers and families in current and future adult support and protection activities and wider community safety themes. The event will focus on safety, risk, protection and promoting conversation, discussion, inclusion and empowerment; it will also provide an opportunity to explore the possibility of developing an Adult Support and Protection Service User/Carer Forum. Theresa Douglas, Chair of West Lothian Community Health and Care Partnership, said: "Adult Protection as a concept is sometimes difficult to grasp. Who is at risk, what are the risks, how can people best protect themselves and what formal help can be offered when situations become unacceptable or difficult to manage? "This event aims to address these questions and provide a safe environment for discussion on the themes of how to keep yourself safe and who you should go to if you need help. The Adult Protection Committee is keen to inform and involve the full range of service users, their carers and families." Executive councillor for social policy, Isabel Hutton said: "Although the subject matter can be difficult, the emphasis at the event will be very much on fun, information and interaction, with a range of events that will both stimulate the mind and offer some relaxation. "I'd encourage service users, their families and carers to attend." The conference will take place on 14 March 2012 at Howden Park Centre. If you or anyone you know is interested in attending, please email catherine.bostock@westlothian.gov.uk or telephone 01506 281850.
