Food Train scoops award

Food Train is delighted to have been presented with a Highly Commended award in the Voluntary Group of the Year Category of the recent West Lothian Voluntary Sector Awards. The Award recognises the achievements of the Food Train in West Lothian in its first year of service.

Alison Wright, Regional Manager, commented: "This is recognition of the hard work of all of our volunteers and staff in making the Food Train a valuable  service benefiting older people here in West Lothian.  The volunteers all work very hard to ensure that our customers get their food deliveries despite bad weather or other hurdles that have come our way in the first year.  We look forward to 2012 when we will continue to reach more older people  and welcome more volunteers to our team.  I would like to say thank you to everyone who has helped us in the year we have been delivering groceries to our customers."

2012 will see the launch of a new service called the EXTRA service which will help our customers with odd jobs around the house such as changing mattresses, defrosting freezers or cleaning inside windows.   Food Train also expects to work with local small businesses in the Trades or with Care and Repair to refer business to them if  asked to do a job which isn?t included in the EXTRA jobs we expect to undertake.

If you know of anyone over the age of 65 living in West Lothian who needs help with their shopping due to ill health or frailty, please tell them about Food Train.

The Food Train is always looking for volunteers to help deliver this valuable service,  so if you have some free time, please give us a call on 01506 654360.
