A guide to short walks is now available to local people in Broxburn and Uphall.
The pocket map, produced by the Put Your West Foot Forward project (part of West Lothian Community Health and Care Partnership (CHCP), is available from the GP practices within Strathbrock Partnership Centre (Broxburn), Strathbrock and Uphall Community Centres and Broxburn Library.
The map highlights walks accessible from the Strathbrock Partnership Centre and Uphall Community Centre. All the walks are short, between one and two miles and are aimed at beginners. This is the second pocket map developed in the series, one is also available for Bathgate and one is in development for Craigshill.
Amanda MacKay, health walk development officer for the CHCP said, “Walking regularly can provide great health benefits. It can help control weight, blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. It can also help you sleep better and can relieve symptoms of stress and anxiety.
“Contrary to popular belief walking can provide the same health benefits as more strenuous exercise. The good thing about walking is that it’s suitable for almost anyone no matter what age or level of fitness.”
Walking is FREE, doesn’t require any special equipment and is easily accessible - as you will see in the pocket map.
So next time your waiting on your prescription or looking for something to do, why not pick up the pocket map and take a short walk.
