A ‘Guide to Good Health’ has been written to tackle inequalities in the health of homeless people in West Lothian.
The 72-page health resource targets homeless people and the people who work with them by providing a wealth of advice and information on a variety of health topics. Topics cover help from local libraries, to information on bereavement, to good hygiene tips.
Bob Anderson, Chair of the West Lothian CHCP said, “It is a great resource for homeless people and those who are involved with them in West Lothian. The variety of information available and the hard work that has been dedicated to this project displays the substantial progress that has been made in joint working on health and homelessness in West Lothian.”
The resource was written by the Health and Homeless Interest Group. The group is a made up of people from voluntary and statutory organisations who are interested in homelessness.
Brenda Kane, team leader for Moving Into Health, West Lothian CHCP, said, “A Guide to Good Health is a resource for all homeless people, it is hoped that people may find useful health and wellbeing tips, and ways to make contact regarding sensitive issues. As well as being issued to all temporary tenancies, anyone providing support to homeless people, will be issued with one.”
The driving force on homeless health inequalities, Moving into Health, is a team of three mental health nurses, employed as part of the West Lothian Community Health and Care Partnership, with a specific role to promote health, enhance links with mainstream services and deliver health support to people who are homeless and those who support them.
