A new learning site GOAL – Get Online and Learn has been launched for people of West Lothian. GOAL provides a one-stop-shop for learners who will be able to find out what learning is available locally and participate in online learning.
The website has been supported by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
People who are new to Information Communication Technology (ICT) can try some simple introductory exercises online, or contact the team for detailed information and guidance on which programmes would best fit their needs. GOAL also offers associated information such as where to find career and educational guidance.
Councillor John McGinty, Convener of the Children’s Services and Lifelong Learning Committee, commented: “As a council we encourage people to become more familiar with new technology. There is so much that can be done online now, whether it is your weekly shopping, booking a holiday, paying for council services or learning. And with free use of computers and the internet at libraries going online is easy. We hope that this website will help to promote local community and voluntary organisations within West Lothian. We would encourage people to look around the site and members of community groups or organisation can also post their details in the community directory.”
Community organisations can also develop their own mini websites (microsites), linked to GOAL, which can be easily maintained and updated. The microsites are not exclusive to voluntary organisations and community groups. If you feel that your organisation is in a position to offer content of interest to people who live and work in West Lothian, please get in touch. You can find GOAL at www.getonlineandlearn.org.uk
