An innovative scheme to help bring improved health awareness into West Lothian’s communities has reached a special milestone.
The West Lothian Community Health and Care Partnership (CHCP) Body Checkout scheme has given its 1000th check up to a West Lothian resident.
The 1000th person to receive a blood pressure check, height measurement and weigh-in was a shopper at the Mill shopping centre in Blackburn, on Thursday 19th July, just six months after the scheme was launched in January.
Public health practitioner Helen Yewdall, who organises the Checkouts, explained: “ It is fantastic that 1000 people in West Lothian have been checked out.
“ As a result of the checks a number of residents are now receiving treatment for, what could have been, extremely dangerous health issues.”
Many of the shoppers who have attended the Body Checkout stall have been given information on improving their health by giving up smoking, eating better and increasing activity levels.
Jim Forrest, Head of Health services for West Lothian CHCP, said: “ The programme is based at various venues in West Lothian, in a bid to catch people who would rarely visit the doctor, but may be in a high-risk category due to their age or lifestyle.”
The mobile health service will continue to run in shopping centres and community venues throughout West Lothian.
Bob Anderson, Chair of the West Lothian CHCP, added: “ This is great news for the residents of West Lothian.
“ One of the main aims of the CHCP is to improve health in all areas of the community and Body Checkout is contributing a great deal towards reaching this target.”
