Young people aged between 10 and 22 from across West Lothian were invited to talk about their opinions on health at the ‘Come and have your say…’ event at Livingston Football Club on 26th November.
The youngsters were entertained by West Lothian Youth Theatre, and participated in a number of fun events, including meeting the animals from the Five Sisters Zoo.
The workshops were arranged by the West Lothian Community Health and Care Partnership (CHCP) and the West Lothian Youth Participation Network. Their aim was to gather opinions from young people in West Lothian on their health and identify issues relating to young people.
The workshops also helped successfully identify young people in West Lothian to form a youth action group, with 29 youngsters already signed up to take part.
Jennifer Scott, senior manager Children and Families for West Lothian CHCP, who helped organise the event, said: “ The events were designed around the young people, in order to encourage them to take part in discussions and share their views.
“It is extremely important to gather information and opinions from all people who use health and care services, unfortunately children and teenagers can be missed out, so we work hard to enhance the opportunities for them to have their say. We came away with a wealth of information and ideas from the participants.”
David Kelly, director of the West Lothian CHCP, said: “To have almost 90 young people attend this event is great. It illustrates that young people are interested in the way their health and care is provided, and want to have their opinions heard. The development of a youth action group on health issues is fantastic.”
