West Lothian Council has prepared action plans that aim to boost opportunities and reduce inequalities in local communities.
Locality Plans for the catchment areas of Whitburn Academy, Bathgate Academy and Inveralmond Community High School have been presented to West Lothian Community Health and Care Partnership Board. Each plan highlights the needs and wants of the local communities, and outlines how West Lothian Council and its community partners will aim to deliver improved services. The action plans aim to tackle a range of issues, including housing, employment, educational attainment, health and social care provision, transport and social exclusion. Work on the plans, which began in 2005, included extensive community involvement. Now their findings will be shared with communities at a series of local meetings. Leader of West Lothian Council, Councillor Graeme Morrice, said: “These action plans offer the communities of Whitburn, Bathgate and Inveralmond a clear timetable for local improvements. “They are another example of the council’s commitment to effectively delivering services to the community and tailoring them to the needs of specific areas.” Three more areas – Armadale, Deans and West Calder - are set to become involved in the Locality Planning process, with work expected to start by the end of June 2006.
